CCU celebrates Leap Year with 'Leaps of Faith' concert

Coastal Carolina University voice professor Patti Yvonne Edwards will join local musicians Elsie Pollock and Mindy Burgin to present “Leaps of Faith,” a recital commemorating Leap Year, at the Recital Hall in the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanity and Fine Arts on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 7:30 p.m. A ticket will be required to attend.

Tre Amici Trio is composed of Edwards singing soprano, Pollock on piano and Burgin on cello. The trio, all from Georgetown, will perform works by Sergei Rachmaninoff, J.S. Bach, Leonard Bernstein, Franz Joseph Haydn and others.

Edwards, a native of Georgetown, has sung opera and chamber music across the United States. She has been invited to the Czech Republic four times to perform recitals of American music and teach master classes at the Janácek Conservatory.

Pollock serves as choir director at Holy Cross Faith Memorial Episcopal Church in Pawleys Island. She earned a bachelor's degree in music from Furman University. She furthered her studies at UNC Wilmington and Meredith College in Raleigh. She has performed with the Charleston, Wilmington and Greenville symphonies.

Burgin is organist at St. James Episcopal Church in McClellanville and the Myrtle Beach Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Carolina Forest. She earned bachelor's degrees in nursing and organ performance from Southern Adventist University and a master's degree from the University of Tennessee. She is a member of the Florence Symphony Orchestra and Southcoast Symphony Orchestra, and she is founder and director of the Kirabo Foundation.

Ticket prices are: general admission, $3; CCU and Horry Georgetown Technical College students, free with ticket (one per valid ID); CCU and HGTC faculty/staff, free with ticket (two per valid ID); children ages 10 and under are admitted free with adult supervision.
