Lifeguard training offered at CCU

The American Red Cross will offer lifeguard training at Coastal Carolina University beginning Monday, March 26 from 5 to 7 p.m. with a pretest swim.

Training will be conducted in two sessions. Session One takes place on weekends, beginning Friday, March 30, through Sunday, April 15. Session Two begins Monday, May 21, and runs all week, ending Saturday, May 26. To be eligible, candidates must be at least 15 years of age on or before the final session. The classes are held at Williams-Brice Recreation Center pool.

The fee is $200 and includes a training book, mask, certification cards and pool fees. No payments will be accepted until all pre-requisites have been met, with the first payment due on the first night of classes.

Members of the CCU staff and students provide the training. Upon completion, swimmers will become certified for two years in lifeguarding, CPR and Automated External Defibrillator training.
