CCU's Opera Workshop to perform

April 5, 2012

Coastal Carolina University's Opera Workshop presents "Spoken or Sung: Arias, Recitatives, Melodrama and Monologues" on Tuesday, April 10, at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall in the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts. The event is free with a ticket and open to the public.

The event explores the connection between theatrical singing and the spoken word. CCU students will perform arias and recitatives by Mozart and other composers' arias. Students include Drew Benson, Courtney Pendleton, Terrance Piette and Brittany Shirley.

The Opera Workshop class at CCU provides music students the opportunity to perform diverse and exciting repertoire in order to develop their abilities as singers/actors. Led by David Bankston, associate professor of music, the Workshop presents a public performance of opera, musical theatre and operetta each semester.

For a free ticket and other information, contact the Wheelwright Box Office Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 843-349-2502.
