CCU Department of Theatre presents “Intimate Apparel’
Written by Lynn Nottage and presented by CCU's Department of Theatre, the play revolves around Esther, who sews corsets and other intimate items of apparel for clients ranging from women of the evening to high-society ladies. Suddenly, for Esther, there is the hope of love, but will she find in it a forbidden relationship with the Orthodox Jewish merchant or with the romantic stranger from Barbados? The play has received multiple awards, including Best Play from the American Theatre Critics and New York Drama Critics Circle.
The production will feature CCU students Miranda Frederick, Robert Wallace, Tia Graham, Nathan Smith, Katherine Brown and LaMisa Daniel. The set has been designed by CCU student Jennifer Hebda.
Gwendolyn Schwinke, assistant professor of voice and acting at CCU, directs the production, which is stage managed by student A.J. Gardner. Costumes have been designed by Erici Hall, associate professor, and lighting by U. Stephen Toney, CCU instructor.
On Saturday, Sept. 29, shows are offered at 3 and 7:30 p.m. CCU professor of history Maggi Morehouse will host a pre-show talk on the history behind the story prior to the Sept. 26 show at 7 p.m. Following the 3 pm. matinee on Saturday, Sept. 29, Keira Williams and Angela Fitzpatrick of CCU's Women and Gender Studies will lead a discussion on the issues addressed in the play.
Ticket prices are: general admission, $15; CCU and Horry Georgetown Technical College, $5 (one ticket per valid ID); CCU and HGTC faculty/staff, $10 (two per valid ID); alumni, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute members and senior citizen (ages 65 and older), $10 and Teens, $5 (ages 11 to 17).
The Edwards Theatre is in the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts, located on 133 Chanticleer Drive West in Conway.
