Imani Winds quintet coming to Coastal Carolina University

October 18, 2012

Premier wind quintet Imani Winds brings its dynamic, classical sound to Coastal Carolina University on Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 7:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium. Tickets are $15 and $20, with discounts available for children and seniors.

Imani (means "faith" in Swahili) Winds has established itself as one of the most-successful chamber music ensembles in the United States. Since 1997, the Grammy-nominated quintet has taken a unique path, carving out a distinct presence in the classical music world with its dynamic playing, culturally poignant programming, genre-blurring collaborations and inspirational outreach programs.

With two member composers and a deep commitment to commissioning new work, the group is enriching the traditional wind quintet repertoire while meaningfully bridging European, American, African and Latin American traditions.

One of the keys to Imani's success is its members' custom of talking to audiences during performances. In a down-to-earth way, they treat audiences to rich descriptions of the instruments and of the pieces being performed.

Tickets are $15 and $20, with discounts for CCU and HGTC faculty, staff and students. Alumni and seniors also get a $5 discount, as do teens and children. For more information and to purchase tickets, call the Wheelwright Box Office at 843-349-2502.
