'Portfolios' exhibit showcases student works

November 21, 2012

Coastal Carolina University studio art and graphic design seniors will showcase their talents at the biannual Portfolios Exhibition Dec. 6 through 15 at the Rebecca Randall Bryan Art Gallery. A closing reception will be held on Friday, Dec. 14 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. These events are free, with no ticket required, and are open to the public.

The portfolio exhibition is a capstone course for studio art and design majors. Showcased works, based on each student's course of study, include printmaking, painting, sculpture and photography.

"Students have been training and preparing for this moment the last four years," says Jim Arendt, director of the Bryan Art Gallery. He says the exhibitions are "about making art and the business end of art." For most seniors, it will be their first professional exhibition.

Students presenting works in the show are: Jentry Childress of Conway; Mary Alice Currence of Myrtle Beach; Ryan D'Alessandro of East Greenville, Pa.; Hayley Eckhart of Chapin; Tracy Fish of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Tim Hodge of Monterey, Calif.; Amanda Illian of Greer; Jamey Kahl of Naples, Fla., Jesse Nevins of Walton, N.Y.; Alicia Rancier of Myrtle Beach; Jenn Ritacco of Conway; and Cory Sanders of Surfside Beach.

The Gallery is located in the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts at 133 Chanticleer Drive W. in Conway. It is open Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call the gallery at 843-349-6454.
