CCU's Lifelong Learning catalogs for 2013 available now

December 6, 2012

The Winter/Spring 2013 catalog of courses offered by the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Coastal Carolina University is now available. Copies have been distributed to the university's three outreach centers in Conway (U.S. 501 and Winyah Road), Myrtle Beach (900 79th Ave. N. and U.S. 17 Bypass) and the new Waccamaw Higher Education Center in the Litchfield Exchange (14329 Ocean Highway). Catalogs have been delivered to all local libraries and chambers of commerce as well.

Classes for the new semester begin on Monday, Jan. 14.

The full catalog is also available on the OLLI website: www.coastal.edu/olli. Seasoned adults may register online, in person, by mail or phone (843-349-5002) for more than 350 noncredit short courses and workshops in the areas of computer technology, art and photography, foreign languages, history, literary and writing, music, theater and film, personal growth and skills, philosophy and religion, science and nature. In addition, dozens of Lowcountry history and cultural excursions are offered.

To participate in the OLLI program, students must become members ($20 for the period from Jan. 1 through Sept. 10). Membership includes free participation in a variety of special interest groups, including community band, beading, birding, book, bridge, computer, French, gardening, current events, Mah-jongg and travel clubs. Discounts with community partners for wellness and cultural programs are also available to OLLI members.

Permanent and part-time resident, even those here for a month's escape from northern snows, will find hours of stimulating information and entertainment, as well as opportunities to meet new friends and connect with the community. Sample the offerings during Free Week, Tuesday through Thursday, Jan. 8-10, when instructors present half-hour overviews of their courses at the outreach centers. The Free Week schedules are available on the website and through the OLLI eNewsletter, which is also posted online.

The OLLI outreach centers in Conway and Myrtle Beach will be closed for the winter break Dec. 22-Jan. 1. The Waccamaw Center at 160 Willbrook Blvd. will close at noon, Friday, Dec. 14, for relocation preparations. Due to renovations, notice of the opening of the Waccamaw Center at the Litchfield Exchange will be announced at a later date.
