For the third consecutive year, Coastal Carolina University has been selected as a site for Elect Her: Campus Women Win, a training program that encourages and trains young women to run for student government on their campuses and, ultimately, for elected and leadership positions following graduation. The 5-year-old Elect Her: Campus Women Win initiative aims to close the long-standing political leadership gender gap by empowering and training women to run for office at all levels, including leadership positions at colleges and universities.

CCU is one of approximately 30 colleges and universities selected to host the 2013 training program. Other participating universities include: Denison, Duke, George Washington, Howard, Louisiana State, Stanford and the University of Virginia, among others.

The daylong training will be on Saturday, Feb. 2, in the Wall Boardroom. Elect Her: Campus Women Win training is open and free to CCU students; however, participation is limited to the first 50 registrants. Registration for the training will be coordinated through the Office of Student Activities and Leadership and will open Jan. 14. The university's student liaison is Kaitlin Page, a junior majoring in political science.

The Elect Her: Campus Women Win initiative is supported by Women and Philanthropy and Leadership for Coastal Carolina University, and is a collaboration between the American Association of University Women and the nonprofit organization Running Start.
