CCU students to devote time to service as part of MLK Day
In conjunction with the national Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, projects include volunteering for the North Myrtle Beach and Grand Strand humane societies, Salvation Army, Embrace Hospice, All 4 Paws and the Boys and Girls Club of the Grand Strand. Students will also participate in the Martin Luther King Jr. parade in Myrtle Beach on the same day.
Students will meet at 8:30 a.m. in the Johnson Auditorium in the Wall Business College and depart for their service sites in groups. Their day will conclude at 2 p.m. following a reflection time on the importance of serving and remembering King's legacy.
The Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is a part of United We Serve, the President's national call to service initiative. It encourages Americans from all walks of life to work together to provide solutions to our most pressing national problems.
The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) is the federal agency that leads the annual MLK Day of Service, working with the King Center in Atlanta and thousands of nonprofit groups, faith-based organizations, and schools and businesses nationwide.
This year's commemoration of the MLK Day of Service coincides with the 57th Presidential Inauguration, which includes a National Day of Service for Jan.19 that will include many MLK-related projects.
