Canadian French-language drama closes Foreign Film Series

Director Philippe Falardeau's 2011 drama "Monsieur Lazhar" will be screened on Wednesday, April 17, at 6 p.m. in the James J. Johnson Auditorium as part of Coastal Carolina University's Foreign Film Series. The event is free and open to the public. A discussion on the issues presented in the film will be held after the screening.

After the suicide of an elementary school teacher, Algerian immigrant Bashir Lazhar is hired as a replacement. Lazhar is battling his own demons associated with death, however, which are revealed during the film. "Monsieur Lazhar" has won numerous awards in Canada and was nominated for Best Foreign Language film at the 84th annual Academy Awards in 2012.

Johnson Auditorium is located in the E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration, room 116.
