April 16, 2013

Pianist and Coastal Carolina University music professor Gary Stegall will perform the fourth installment of CCU's Piano Concert Series, set for Tuesday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the Edwards Recital Hall on campus. The concert will feature piano works by Carl Czerny, Joseph Haydn, Leos Janacek and Joseph Jongen.

A specialist in the music of Belgian Impressionist composer Joseph Jongen, Stegall has introduced the composer's works to many audiences through concert performances and a critically acclaimed CD. In 2011, Stegall was awarded a Fulbright Scholars Grant for five months study in Brussels, where he continued his Jongen research. For his upcoming CCU program, he will include two Jongen masterworks: "Clair de lune" and "Soleil a midi" (Noonday sun).

Renowned as both solo and chamber pianist, Stegall has performed throughout North, Central and South America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Scandinavia in such cities as New York, London, Paris, Berlin, Madrid, Rome, Florence, Bangkok, Lima, Singapore, Cairo, Mexico City, Gothenburg (Sweden), Chicago, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.

Stegall has previously appeared as guest artist with the dePasquale String Quartet of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Formerly resident pianist for the South Carolina Chamber Orchestra Soloists, he is presently resident pianist for the Beau Geste Trio (flute, cello, piano) with appearances at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival, USA. Next month, Stegall will perform in Istanbul and Vienna.
