CCU to hold media briefing on new hurricane outlook model
Members of the team that developed this model, which is unique in the field of hurricane climatology, will be at the briefing to explain the new methodology and its relevance for hurricane prediction and preparedness.
The news conference is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, in the conference room of CCU's Burroughs & Chapin Center for Marine and Wetlands Studies, located at 290 Allied Drive in Conway, S.C.
The Burroughs & Chapin Center for Marine & Wetland Studies (BCCMWS) was established in 1988 to facilitate basic and applied research within the College of Science at Coastal Carolina University. Under the direction of Paul Gayes, Ph.D., the center has earned a national reputation for the scope and quality of its research and the innovative technical equipment it has developed.
Coastal Carolina University is a dynamic, public comprehensive liberal arts institution located in Conway, near the resort area of Myrtle Beach, S.C. With an enrollment of more than 9,000 students, the University offers 65 areas of study toward the baccalaureate degree and seven master's degree programs in accountancy, business administration, education, marine and wetland studies, and writing. The University will begin offering its first doctoral program -- the Ph.D. in Coastal and Marine Systems Science -- in Fall 2014.
