CCU names new philanthropy team
Mark Roach has been appointed the vice president for philanthropy, Mark Kiskunas is the new senior director for philanthropy, and Chris Johnson will be executive director of the Chanticleer Athletic Foundation (CAF).
"I am excited about the team that has been assembled," said CCU President David DeCenzo. "We all know the importance of philanthropy in today's higher education arena and are excited about what this team is poised to accomplish."
From 2007 to 2013, Roach was executive director of the CAF, the athletic booster organization for CCU and prior to that, he was senior associate athletic director.
A native of Doraville, Ga., Roach earned a bachelor's degree in physical education from CCU in 1984 and a master's degree in sports management from the U.S. Sports Academy in 1993. Before joining the University staff in 2002, he was coordinator of athletics and physical education for Horry County Schools. He was also Carolina Forest High School athletic director, head baseball coach at Socastee High School and Sumter High School, and head baseball/basketball coach at Wilson Hall in Sumter.
"Working to find donors whose generosity provides opportunities for the next generation of leaders is both exciting and rewarding," says Roach. "I am also very honored to work with a team of people who are passionate and excited about what they do for Coastal."
Kiskunas, a 1996 graduate of CCU, has a background in banking. He held executive positions with Plantation Federal, NationsBank in Charlotte and the Royal Bank of Canada. He is a former president and treasurer of the Myrtle Beach Sertoma Club.
"After nearly 20 years of serving the community in commercial and corporate banking, I am excited to work with a dynamic team of development officers to seek additional relationships and investments for CCU, which provides a half billion dollars annual economic impact to our community," says Kiskunas.
Chris Johnson will direct the CAF, a nonprofit organization that raises funds to support CCU's approximate 450 student-athletes and 18 NCAA Division 1 athletic programs. He will be responsible for donor support and managing the daily operations of the foundation. He was previously director of development and senior major gift officer for the CAF. Johnson was also director of development for university athletics and other areas of advancement and philanthropy, and he was a former executive director of the CINO Club, which was later renamed the Chanticleer Club. Johnson is also a former president of the Myrtle Beach Sertoma Club.
