Robert Audi, professor of philosophy at the University of Notre Dame, will present "Can Religious Faith Be Rational Given the Evils of History?" at Coastal Carolina University on Monday, March 17, at 4:30 p.m. in the James J. Johnson Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public.

According to traditional theism, God is all-powerful, all-knowing and perfectly just. If God as traditionally understood exists, why didn't he prevent all the tragedies in history such as the Holocaust or the 2011 Japanese tsunami? This is the classical problem of evil. In his talk, Audi will discuss the problem of evil covered in his recent book, "Rationality and Religious Commitment."

Audi, the O'Brien Professor of Philosophy at the University of Notre Dame, focuses his work on epistemology, ethics, especially ethical intuitionism and the theory of action. He previously held a chair in the Notre Dame Business School. He has written numerous books and articles in many areas of philosophy. Audi earned a bachelor of arts from Colgate University, and master's and doctorate degrees from the University of Michigan.
