Vibrations Dance Company to perform Feb. 2

Vibrations Dance Company of Columbia, S.C., will perform in Coastal Carolina University's Wheelwright Auditorium on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The production, titled "Visions of a People," retrospectively explores the history of African-American dance and its influence on American dance and culture. This performance highlights the artistic, social and technical evolution of African-American dance through various styles and genres.

Vibrations is a modern dance group which performs works of modern, jazz and spiritual dances choreographed and performed by South Carolina artists. The company is dedicated to preserving, enhancing and presenting the historical, traditional and contemporary forms of dance, primarily African-American cultural expression.

Vibrations helps preserve the abundant heritage of South Carolina's many cultures through performances, community outreach and educational programs throughout the state.

The performance is part of Coastal's 2002 African-American Celebration which offers a variety of events which examine the art, history, music and cultural achievement of African-Americans
