Bass Extremes with Steve Bailey to perform at CCU

October 7, 2014

Legendary bassists Steve Bailey and Victor Wooten will be joined by acclaimed drummer Derico Watson for a one-night only Bass Extremes concert at Coastal Carolina University on Thursday, Oct. 16, at 7:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium.

Bailey, artist-in-residence at CCU, is famous for his revolutionary work with the six-string fretless bass. Wooten is a five-time Grammy award winner and was named one of the 2011 top 10 bassists of all time in Rolling Stone magazine.

This group of award-winning performers also created the SMV Vocal Jazz Camp dedicated to the creative inspiration and artistic education of like-minded individuals of all ages. Bailey, who is chair of the bass department at Berklee College of Music, has made waves with his solo albums, including "Dichotomy" (featuring Dizzy Gillespie) and "So Low…Solo." Wooten was a founding member of Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, an instrumental group inspired by bluegrass and post-bop. Watson, also an educator, has performed with many impressive artists such as George Duke and Prasanna.

Tickets for the event range from $15 to $20 for general admission. Teens, CCU and HGTC alumni, OLLI members and senior citizens receive a $5 discount, and children's tickets are $5. CCU/HGTC students can also purchase tickets for $5. Seating is limited and reserved. To purchase tickets, visit ticketreturn.com or visit or call the Wheelwright Box Office at 843-349-ARTS (2787).
