Coastal Carolina celebrates Homecoming 2014

Coastal Carolina University's Homecoming 2014, "Shipwrecked in TEALnation," is packed with events, culminating with the Chanticleer football game against the Charleston Southern Buccaneers at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, in Brooks Stadium. The schedule is as follows. All events, unless otherwise specified, are free and open to the public.

Teal Tuesday, Oct. 21

- Office Decorating Contest, judging at 3 p.m., various offices around campus

- Bridging Cultures: In an Antique Land, 4:30 p.m., Lackey Chapel. Author Amitav Ghosh presents a lyrical portrait of life in Egypt for those seeking to understand the complexity and interconnected nature of lands and cultures on the periphery of the Indian Ocean. Discussion led by Eliza Glaze, the Lawrence B. and Jane P. Clark Chair in History.

- Paint the Town Teal, completed and judged at 5 p.m. in downtown Conway. Each team will partner with a Conway business to decorate its storefront and Paint the Town Teal. Teams will receive points toward the Homecoming Week competition. The business will also receive a certificate and a plaque for participating.

- Coastal Can-Struct, 6 p.m. at the HTC Center. Using canned goods, students will erect structures and replicas of buildings in line with the Homecoming theme. All canned items will be donated to the CCU Food Bank.

- River Runs: An Evening with Chuck Owen, 7:30 p.m., Edwards 152 Recital Hall. Jazz composer Chuck Owen gives a multimedia lecture on his "River Runs" suite written for jazz big band and featuring saxophone and guitar. Owen will discuss the inspiration and themes present in the work and compositional approaches in general.? For ticket information, contact the Wheelwright Box Office at 843-349-ARTS (2787).

Wednesday, Oct. 22

- Be the Match Bone Marrow Drive 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Hicks Courtyard and CINO Grille lobby. Register with "Be The Match," a pain-free process that could help match you with someone who needs a lifesaving bone marrow donation.

- Treasure Hunt at noon on Prince Lawn. Teams will pick up their Treasure List for a scavenger hunt and have until 6 p.m. to collect as many items as possible.

- The CCU Department of Theatre Presents: "Metamorphoses," 7:30 p.m., Edwards Black Box Theater. Lost love, dangerous passion and reunited soul mates wrestle with fate in this reinterpretation of Ovid's Metamorphoses. Call the Wheelwright Box Office at 843-349-ARTS (2787).

Thursday, Oct. 23

- Tea & Ethics at 3:30 p.m., Wheelwright Auditorium, "Is the University a Business?" A panel of faculty and staff discuss the pros and cons of running a university like a business.

- The Tully Hull Flute and Guitar Duo, 7:30 p.m., Edwards 152 Recital Hall. Music faculty Amy Hardison Tully (flute) and Daniel Hull (guitar) will present a recital featuring diverse works. Call Wheelwright Box Office at 843-349-ARTS (2787).

- Atlantic Stage company presents: "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde," 7:30 p.m., 79th Avenue Theater. The script is adapted from the novella Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson. For ticket information, call Atlantic Stage at 877-287-8587

Friday, Oct. 24

- 11th Annual Homcoming Golf Classic tournament at 11:30 a.m. at the Hackler Golf Course, shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. For more information or to sign up, visit coastal.edu/alumni.

- Coastal's Got Talent, 7 p.m., HTC Center Arena. Individual student and student organization finalists will show off their talent for the big prize. Don't miss this amazing show, featuring comedy act Dakaboom. For ticket information, contact the Wheelwright Box Office at 843-349-ARTS (2787).

Saturday, Oct. 25, Homecoming Day

- Golf Cart Parade starting at 2 p.m. The parade route goes through the tailgate areas on campus. Golf carts are provided for students to decorate and show their Chanticleer spirit.

- Most Spirited Tailgate Competition from noon to 2 p.m. at Chantourage Alley.

- Homecoming Game vs. Charleston Southern, 3:30 p.m., Brooks Stadium - "Metamorphoses," 3 and 7:30 p.m., Edwards 117 Black Box Theater (See Wednesday, Oct. 22 entry.)
