CCU series to explore ‘Privacy in the Digital Age’

February 4, 2015

"Privacy in the Digital Age" will be the topic for February's foreign policy program scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 14, from 10 a.m. to noon at Coastal Carolina University's Myrtle Beach Education Center. The public is invited to this free event in the University's Great Decisions series.

The talk will examine the challenge of securing private information. The extent of the federal government's use of digital technology in the age of terrorism has revealed a much broader intelligence collection program than most Americans realize. The talk will focus on the challenges to liberty and privacy in the digital age in view of the threat of terrorism and the need to provide for public security.

William M. Jones Jr., professor and chair of the department of computer science and information systems at CCU, will lead the discussion. A native of Conway, Jones has taught electrical engineering and computer science at Clemson University (his alma mater) and the U.S. Naval Academy. He is currently a university collaborator at Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico.

This discussion is the second in the Great Decisions program as presented by the Edgar Dyer Institute for Leadership and Public Policy, CCU's Department of Politics and Geography and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI).

Attendees will have the option of purchasing the "Great Decisions" book at the event.
