CCU celebrates Rising for Justice on Feb. 13

February 9, 2015

Coastal Carolina University students will join activists around the world for ONE BILLION RISING FOR JUSTICE Day on Friday, Feb. 13, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Prince Lawn, as part of a worldwide campaign to bring attention to violence against women and girls.

"This year we will focus on the issue of justice for all survivors of gender violence, seeking an end to rampant impunity that prevails globally," said Angie Fitzpatrick, lecturer and assistant director of CCU's Women's and Gender Studies program that hosts the event.

ONE BILLION RISING FOR JUSTICE is a global call to women, men and youth around the world to gather safely on this designated day in support of the campaign. "We cannot end violence against women without looking at the intersection of poverty, racism, war, the plunder of the environment, capitalism, imperialism and patriarchy," according to the website.
