CCU campus walk promotes suicide awareness

March 18, 2015

"Out of the Darkness," a campus walk to promote suicide prevention awareness, will be held Saturday, March 21, in Blanton Park on the Coastal Carolina University campus. Registration for the event is at 10 a.m., and the opening ceremony is at 11 a.m. The event is open to the public.

The campus walk campaign is designed to build awareness about suicide and to raise funds for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. In South Carolina alone, suicide is the 11th leading overall cause of death. It is the third leading cause of death for individuals between 15 and 34 years old.

Anyone who has been touched by suicide or is interested in helping save lives may register online or at the events.

Out of the Darkness is sponsored by CCU's The COAST (Counseling Outreach Office), CCU Counseling Services and SHORE/Active Minds Peer Educators.

Blanton Park is located in front of the Edward M. Singleton building located at 103 Tom Trout Drive.
