CCU student-athletes continue to excel academically

August 14, 2015

The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers' 2014-2015 athletic season was not only a big success on the sports fields, but it was also a success in the academic arena, with student-athletes taking top honors in many areas.

"Our first priority is the educational development of our student-athletes, and I am very proud of the excellent academic record that our programs have and continue to demonstrate," says Director of Athletics Matt Hogue. "It's a testament to the solid leadership of our head coaches as well as the strong commitment from the University's faculty and staff. These accomplishments would also not be possible without the support provided by our academic advisement staff."

Here's a look some of the highlights of the Chants' academic record:

- The overall student-athlete cumulative grade point average (GPA) for 2014-2015 was 3.136 as compared to 2.932 for general degree-seeking students.

- The men's cross country and women's golf teams both received public recognition from the NCAA for top academic performance for its multiyear Academic Progress Rate scores of 1,000.

- Three student-athletes graduated at the top of their classes in their respective majors in 2014-2015. Fifteen students graduated with honors, earning cumulative GPAs of 3.5 or above.

- 229 of 415 student-athletes (55.1 percent) were named to the Big South Presidential Honor Roll for 2014-2015. (Five years ago, 184 student-athletes made the list in 2009-2010).

- 65 student-athletes garnered President's List honors for achieving a 4.0 GPA during the 2014-2015 academic year. (Five years ago, 44 student-athletes achieved 4.0 GPAs.)
