CCU professor to discuss yoga practice and virtue
Oxley will suggest that while yoga is a practice that takes place "on the mat," practitioners can glean lessons that can be used off the mat. For example, sometimes people who practice yoga can seem to be vain, impatient and competitive, even in the yoga classroom. Oxley develops the idea of "yogic virtue" and suggests that there are principles and virtues such as balance, focus and non-judgment that yoga practitioners can learn to take from their practice on the mat into their lives. In addition, just as the physical practice of yoga can accommodate a wide variety of personalities, aptitudes and abilities, so can yogic ethics or morality.
