Squatriglia receives ODK's Meritorious Service Award

Robert W. Squatriglia, vice president for student affairs at Coastal Carolina University, has received the Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) honorary leadership society's Meritorious Service Award. He received the award at ODK's annual national conference, held last month in Lexington, Ky.

Squatriglia has served as Faculty Circle Secretary of Coastal's Circle of ODK since it was chartered in 1980. He was recently elected the first Faculty Director of the newly established Province VI of ODK, which includes 13 university and college circles in South Carolina.

Squatriglia has served as dean of students and vice president of student affairs at Coastal since 1977. Prior to joining Coastal, he was vice president for student affairs at State University of New York at Brockport and associate dean of students at State University of New York at Albany. He also has held positions at the University of South Carolina and the College of William and Mary.

Squatriglia is a board member of the United Way of Horry County, a graduate of Leadership Grand Strand and Leadership South Carolina, and is an active member of St. James Catholic Church in Conway. He is past vice president of the Conway Chamber of Commerce and originator of Leadership Conway and the chamber's Youth Leadership Program.

A Rotarian since 1978, Squatriglia received the Rotary Club of Conway's Distinguished Service Award in 1993 and its 4 Avenues of Service Citation in 1999. He is past district governor of Rotary International and received the organization's Presidential Citation in 1988.

Squatriglia, who served as airborne infantry company commander in the U.S. Army, earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the College of William and Mary and his Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina.

ODK is Coastal's only national leadership and scholastic honor society. ODK was founded in 1914 at Washington and Lee University.
