Value, styles of church music to be discussed at CCU Mindful Conversations forum

October 23, 2015

The role of music in the religious experience is the topic of the next "Mindful Conversations" forum at Coastal Carolina University, set for Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 5 p.m. in CCU's Lackey Chapel. The event is free and open to the public.

Panelists for the event -- Patti Edwards, Eric Crawford and Andrew Fowler -- are all on the CCU Department of Music faculty and are all church musicians. They will discuss and demonstrate how specific kinds of music -- from traditional liturgical organ preludes to blended worship to the spirituals of Gullah worship -- are used to enhance and give meaning to various forms of religious expression.

Mindful Conversations is a series of public forums organized by CCU's Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies and held at Lackey Chapel. The chapel is located at 105 University Drive on the Conway campus. For more information, contact Patti Edwards at 843-349-2570 or pyedward@coastal.edu.
