Researcher to present on ‘The Great Migration’

February 11, 2016

Scott Firsing, research associate at the Institute for Global Dialogue, will give a talk on "The Great Migration" as part of the "Great Decisions in Foreign Policy" monthlong series at Coastal Carolina University on Saturday, Feb. 20, at 10 a.m. at the Myrtle Beach Education Center. A coffee social will precede the presentation. The event is free and open to the public.

Firsing will discuss the role of push/pull factors in the current culture of migration and lead attendees in a group discussion, which will focus on understanding global migration when considering complex factors such as conflict and national interests.

"Great Decisions in Foreign Policy" is sponsored by CCU's Dyer Institute for Leadership and Public Policy, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) and CCU's Department of Politics. The Dyer Institute engages students in active learning opportunities where they may gain knowledge in various areas of policy research. The OLLI program offers a wide range of opportunities for older adults and noncredit students to achieve intellectual, cultural and social growth.

The last lecture this month on Feb. 27 will be about the role of the United Nations.

The Myrtle Beach Education Center is located at 900 79th Ave. N. For more information about the event, contact Jacqueline Kurlowski, coordinator of the Dyer Institute for Leadership and Public Policy, at jamkurlow@coastal.edu or call 843-349-6952.
