Award-winning pianist will play Bach at CCU

April 4, 2016

Internationally acclaimed pianist Caroline Hong will perform a Bach recital on Sunday, April 10, at 6 p.m. in the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts Recital Hall at Coastal Carolina University. General admission tickets are $17, and discounts are available.

Hong will play one piece, J.S. Bach's monumental "Goldberg Variations," one of the most popular and revered works in the keyboard repertoire. Her performance is part of CCU's Piano Concert Series that highlights composers of the Romantic Era.

Hong made her debut at Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall as a winner of the Frinna Awerbuch International Piano Competition and has since performed throughout the world. Critics have praised her expressive playing and formidable technique. As a chamber musician, she has performed with many noted ensembles such as the Vermeer String Quartet and the Dorian Wind Quintet. She has also toured extensively in the United States as a member of the piano-violin duo, Duo Viardot.

She is the first female pianist named to piano at the Peabody Summer Program. She received her master's degree from the Juilliard School and a doctorate in piano performance from Indiana University. She is now a professor of piano at Ohio State University.
