David Bankston, singer, songwriter, guitarist and associate professor of music at Coastal Carolina University, will perform a concert with special guests on Monday, April 11, at 7:30 p.m. in the Wheelwright Auditorium. General admission tickets are $7, and discounts are available.

Bankston will be joined by Sam Broussard, singer, songwriter and guitarist from Lafayette, La., on guitar, and CCU professors of music Marc Chesanow, on bass, Jesse Willis on percussion and Dan O'Reilly on the harmonica. They will perform songs in the genres of Americana, contemporary folk music and jazz standards, including original songs from Bankston's award-winning CDs "Galvez Town" and "Jazz Blues Gospel Shoes."

Bankston has been creating music for much of his life. He was a member of the folk-rock group Manchild, which recorded for Capitol Records in the mid-1970s. Following the group's breakup, Bankston spent years performing in musical theatre and opera, including leading roles at the Houston Grand Opera and Washington Opera.

Ticket proceeds from this event will support the CCU Student Jazz Combo to fund its trip to the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. The ensemble has been invited to the Umbria Jazz Festival in Italy and the Vienne Jazz Festival in France as well.

Senior citizens, OLLI members, alumni, teens, and CCU/HGTC faculty and staff may purchase tickets for $5. Tickets for children and CCU/HGTC students are $3. To purchase tickets, contact the Wheelwright Auditorium at 843-349-ARTS (2787) or visit between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets may also be purchased at ticketreturn.com. The auditorium is located at 108 Spadoni Park on the Conway campus.
