POP 101 will perform spring concert

April 14, 2016

Coastal Carolina University's POP 101 is a pop rock and soul music student-performing group that will perform Saturday, April 16, at 7:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium. General admission tickets are $7, and discounts are available.

The show will be a tribute to two of the most successful and longest running acts in rock music history: Fleetwood Mac and Chicago. Pop 101 will perform hits such as "Don't Stop Thinkin' About Tomorrow," "You Can Go Your Own Way," "Saturday in the Park," "25 or 6 or 4" and many others.

A premium performance will be on Friday, April 15, at 6 p.m. and is a scholarship fundraiser for the CCU Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts board of visitors. This exclusive performance will include a reception and preshow lecture. Proceeds will benefit scholarship opportunities for humanities students. To purchase a $50 ticket for this performance, call 843-349-6985 or email culturalarts@coastal.edu.

POP 101, directed by Dan O'Reilly, instructor of music at CCU, is a student ensemble that includes guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, horns and vocalists. Instrumentalists are expected to play by ear as well as read music. Vocalists must harmonize and sing in a variety of popular styles. Anyone can join POP 101 through auditions.

O'Reilly has extensive performing experience in New York City and along the Grand Strand at venues such as the House of Blues, Broadway at the Beach, the Palace Theatre and Brookgreen Gardens. He has appeared with the Four Tops, the Temptations and Lou Rawls and has opened for B.B. King and the Doobie Brothers.

Senior citizens, OLLI members, alumni, teens, and CCU/HGTC faculty and staff may purchase tickets for $5. Tickets for children and CCU/HGTC students are $3. To purchase tickets, contact the Wheelwright Auditorium at 843-349-ARTS (2787) or visit between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets may also be purchased at ticketreturn.com.
