Steve Bailey and Victor WootenMatt White

"Pushing the Limits," a jazz collaboration between Coastal Carolina University faculty and a Grammy award-winning guest artist, will be presented on Thursday, Sept. 15, at 7:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium. The concert will feature bassist Steve Bailey, Grammy Award-winner Victor Wooten, trumpeter Matt White and guitarist Tim Fischer. Admission is $17 per person with discounts available.

Bailey, known for his pioneering work with the six-string fretless bass, is the artist-in-residence at CCU and chair of the bass department at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Wooten, a multiple Grammy Award-winner, author and a founding member of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, is known in music circles as the most influential bassist of the last two decades.

White directs CCU's Jazz After Hours Big Band and teaches trumpet. His debut CD, "The Super Villain Jazz Band," was released in 2013, and he first joined Bailey and Wooten for a performance in 2014.

Fischer, a jazz guitarist, composer and educator who has performed across the United States as well as in Europe, is new to the CCU music department. His debut CD, "Due South," was released in 2014, and his book, "Jazz Guitar Duets," co-authored by William Flynn, was issued in June 2016.

"Having Matt with us a couple years ago was great," Bailey said. "Now, adding Tim Fischer to the faculty -- a virtuoso guitarist who is going to add so much to the music department - is even better." At the concert, "We will have a lot of spontaneous combustion and lots of improvisation that's exciting for us."

Tickets for senior citizens, teenagers, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute members, CCU alumni, and CCU/HGTC faculty and staff are $12. Tickets for children and CCU/HGTC students are $5.

Wheelwright Auditorium is located at 108 Spadoni Park Circle on the Conway campus.
