Spectrum Concert highlights CCU Family Weekend

September 9, 2016

Coastal Carolina University's annual Spectrum Concert will be held during Family Weekend on Friday, Sept. 23, at 7 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium. Tickets are $7, with discounts available.

The concert features CCU Department of Music student ensembles under the direction of faculty members; performances will take the audience through a "spectrum" of instruments from guitars to drums to symphonic instruments, with styles ranging from traditional band to classical, jazz and show tunes.

The program will include the CCU Jazz Ensemble, directed by Matthew White; the Chamber Choir, directed by Terri Sinclair; the CCU World Percussion Ensemble, directed by Jesse Willis; and the Chanticleer Regiment, directed by T. Andre Feagin. Chamber ensembles will include the CCU Saxophone Ensemble with Daniel O'Reilly, the CCU Low Brass Ensemble with Christopher Connolly, and the CCU Jazz Combo under the direction of White and Timothy Fischer. The grand finale will feature the CCU Symphonic Band, conducted by Richard L. Johnson.

The Spectrum concerts have been presented for more than a decade and are now part of the CCU music tradition, according to Philip Powell, chair of the Department of Music.

Teenagers, CCU and HGTC alumni, OLLI members, groups and senior citizens receive a 20 percent discount. CCU and HGTC students can purchase tickets for $5.

Tickets may be purchased at the Wheelwright Box Office, which is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and located at 108 Spadoni Park Circle on the Conway campus.
