CCU recognizes Banned Books week

September 19, 2016

Coastal Carolina University's Kimbel Library and Bryan Information Commons will recognize Banned Books week from Monday, Sept. 26, to Friday, Sept. 30. All events are free and open to the public. Banned Book Week is a national observance that celebrates the freedom to read.

On Monday, Sept. 26, a virtual read-out will be playing in the Bryan Information Commons foyer all week; banned books will be read by faculty, staff and students.

On Tuesday, Sept. 27, from 2-4 p.m., the library will host a Tweet-Out. Students can tweet out a photo mugshot with a banned book to support the freedom to read.

On Thursday, Sept. 29, from 6:30-8 p.m., the library will host a S'mores Roast in Blanton Park in front of the Edward M. Singleton building. "Roast s'mores, not books," is the catch phrase for this event. Volunteers will also be recorded reading from their favorite banned book for next year's Read-Out video.

Sponsors include the Freedom to Read Foundation's Judith F. Krug Memorial Fund.

Kimbel Library and Bryan Information Commons are located at 376 University Blvd. on the Conway campus. For more information, visit the library's website at coastal.edu/library or call 843-349-2400.
