CCU Orchestra and Long Bay Symphony Youth Orchestra team up for concert

The Coastal Carolina University Orchestra and Long Bay Symphony Youth Orchestra will combine to perform "Music through the Ages" in Wheelwright Auditorium on Thursday, Nov. 10, at 7:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium. General admission tickets are $10, and tickets for students are $5.

"Music through the Ages" is a concert of classic orchestral repertoire spanning the Renaissance through the 20th century. The performance will feature music by Domenico Gabrielli, Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Edvard Grieg, Aaron Copland, Charles Ives and others.

The program will include "Orchestral Suite No. 1" by Bach, "Symphony No. 5" by Ludwig van Beethoven, "Peer Gynt Suite No. 1" by Grieg, "The Household Muse" by Darius Milhaud, "Quiet City" by Copland and "Capriol Suite" by Peter Warlock.

Charles Jones Evans will conduct the concert. Evans is in his 21st season as the music director/conductor of the Long Bay Symphony. He has held conducting positions with professional music orchestras and festivals across the United States. Evans' performances are frequently broadcast on National Public Radio. He is also an artist in residence at Coastal Carolina University.

The Long Bay Symphony Youth Orchestra provides professional training and performance opportunities for approximately 60 students each year.
