CCU ‘Fall Back’ concert to premiere new symphonic work

Coastal Carolina University's Symphonic Band and The Coastal Winds ensemble will perform a "Fall Back" concert on Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 7:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium. The concert will feature band works from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including the pieces by Peter Mennin, Alfred Reed, Percy Grainger, Giuseppe Pando and Luigi Denza.

The conductor of the Symphonic Band and The Coastal Winds is Richard Lawrence Johnson, who will be joined by DeAndre Preston, a graduate assistant conductor, and Nathan M. Culp, a student conductor.

CCU junior John Thomas Abrams will be the featured euphonium solo artist. He is studying music and is a candidate for the Bachelor of Arts degree in performance. He was selected to perform with the South Carolina Intercollegiate honor band in 2016. As a student composer, he has had pieces premiered by Greer High School and performed by his colleagues in CCU's Department of Music.

A new concert march titled "The Grand Strand Myrtle Beach March" by Giuseppe Pando will be premiered. He is an Italian/Canadian composer who resides in both Montreal and Myrtle Beach and has served 27 years in the Canadian Armed Forces bands.

General admission is $7, faculty and staff tickets are $5, CCU and HGTC students tickets cost $3, and children under 10 will be admitted for free. Wheelwright Auditorium is located on 108 Spadoni Park Circle on the main Conway campus. Box office hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets can also be purchased at ticketreturn.com.
