CCU visiting theatre professor cast in major regional production
Woodson, who is teaching courses in stage auditions, directing and acting during his time at CCU, has more than four decades of professional experience as an actor and director. He has performed in more than 100 productions, including the role of Jason in the Broadway production of "Medea," starring Dame Diana Bigg; Kent in "King Lear" with Hal Holbrook at the Great Lakes Theater Festival and Roundabout Theatre; Kent in "King Lear" with F. Murray Abraham at the NY Shakespeare Festival/Public Theater; and Exeter in "Henry V" at the NY Shakespeare Festival.
Woodson served as artistic and executive director of The Warehouse Theatre in Greenville from 2002-2006. He is an alumnus of the North Carolina School of the Arts.
"John has been a working actor in film, TV and the stage for more than 40 years," said Kenneth Martin, CCU professor of theatre. "His work on our stage has been outstanding, both as a director and occasional actor. His experience colors our work together and enlightens the students in myriad ways. The role he'll be playing in 'All My Sons' is certainly something that is directly in his wheelhouse. I am quite certain he'll be exceptional."
Woodson performed in "All My Sons" 36 years ago at the Alley Theatre in Houston, of which Arthur Miller was co-director. His role in that performance was Chris, one of the Keller sons; he'll be portraying the father role in this performance.
"It is not often that an actor can be involved in a play that can come full circle in both experiences as an actor and as a character," said Woodson.
