CCU releases Winter 2016-17 Cultural Arts Calendar

November 18, 2016

Coastal Carolina University has released its Winter 2016-17 Cultural Arts Calendar in print and online, covering events from early December 2016 through the end of February 2017. Offerings include performances by nationally renowned theater and music groups, a guitar concert series, holiday celebrations, lectures on foreign policy and an international film series. Events feature visiting artists as well as CCU faculty and students.

The Fly-By-Night Dance Theater kicks off the winter season with a performance Dec. 3. Sponsored by the CCU Cultural Arts Committee, this event features the famed New York City trapeze troupe in an evening of repertory that showcases movement, storytelling and expression through aerial dance. Performances combine low-flying trapeze and harnesses with elements of modern dance, acrobatics and ballet.

Enjoy an evening of jazz with the Matt White and the Tim Fischer Quintet on Jan. 10 at 7:30 p.m. This performance of original music and jazz standards also features the New York City-based Michael Feinberg Trio, coinciding with its January tour of the Southeast. The trio includes Feinberg on bass, Noah Preminger on saxophone and Ian Froman on drums, all of whom are first-call musicians in New York.

Iconic Broadway performers take the stage on Jan. 29 at 4 p.m. for Legends of Broadway with Ron Raines and Donald Pippin. Raines starred in Broadway productions of "Chicago" and "Show Boat" but may be best known for his Emmy award-winning role as Alan Spaulding on CBS' daytime drama "Guiding Light." Pippin earned a Tony Award for his work in "Oliver!" and served as musical director for New York City's Radio City Music Hall for more than a decade.
