CCU choirs, Guitar Ensemble present 17th annual holiday concert

Coastal Carolina University's 17th annual Holiday Concert offers a mix of classical and contemporary music, performed by the CCU Concert and Chamber Choirs and the CCU Guitar Ensemble. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 7:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Conway. Tickets are $7, with discounts available.

Terri Sinclair, CCU associate professor of music and director of choral activities, will direct the Concert and Chamber Choirs, and Daniel Hull, CCU lecturer of music, will direct the Guitar Ensemble.

In addition to classical selections by Handel and Scarlatti, the program includes familiar holiday carols, contemporary seasonal songs and an audience sing-along.

"The music will be a blend of classical selections that affirm the value of music in our lives and holiday selections to get the audience in the spirit of the season," said Sinclair.

The event also includes a collection for the Catholic Charities Christmas Assistance Program; attendees are invited to bring a toy for donation to a child in need.

CCU students performing in the Guitar Ensemble are Marcus Cannon, Cynthea Kelley, Chris Melgar, Willie Newman, Thomas Probert, Cameron Rider, Santos Salazar and Chris Scheu.

Sinclair earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in choral conducting, with a minor in music history, from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She is a published composer and has published articles in scholarly journals including The Chorister, the Choral Journal and the North Carolina Music Educator.

Hull earned a Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts in guitar performance from the Eastman School of Music, where he studied with Nicholas Goluses.

Admission is $7. Senior citizens, OLLI members, teenagers, children, and CCU/HGTC alumni, faculty and staff may purchase tickets for $5. CCU/HGTC students may purchase tickets for $3 with a student ID.

First United Methodist Church is located at 1001 Fifth Ave. in Conway.
