CCU Honor Band, Scholarship Festival in final concert

January 13, 2017

The Coastal Carolina University Department of Music presents the CCU Honor Band and Scholarship Festival Concert on Friday, Jan. 20, at 7:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium. Tickets are $7, with CCU discounts available.

The event is the culmination of the three-day 10th Annual CCU Honor Band and Scholarship Festival, which brings talented high school student musicians from across the Southeast together for intensive clinics and rehearsals with CCU faculty and students. The public concert features both the festival honor band and the CCU Honor Band.

Music selections for the concert represent a broad spectrum of repertoire.

T. Andre Feagin, CCU assistant professor of music, will serve as conductor of the festival's honor band, and master teacher and conductor Don T. Haynes of Austin, Texas, will conduct the CCU Honor Band.

"We'll have 150 high school instrumentalists on our campus involved with our students, involved with our faculty, and really see what it's like to be a part of CCU and the music program," said Feagin of the festival experience.

In addition, Feagin will announce CCU scholarship recipients for the 2017/2018 academic year as part of the event.

"Students will be awarded scholarships during the concert to showcase and highlight these young people's talents in front of their peers, in front of their families and in front of their teachers," Feagin said.

Feagin serves as director of CCU athletic bands and oversees the musical direction, administration and presentations of the Chanticleer Regiment and Chanticleer Basketball Pep Band. He also teaches applied clarinet and courses in commercial music.

Haynes served as director of bands at LBJ High School of Austin, Texas, for 39 years, where he was awarded the statewide Denius Award in 1994, presented to Texas' top University Interscholastic League (UIL) educators.

General admission is $7. Senior citizens, OLLI members, alumni, teens, and CCU/HGTC faculty and staff may purchase tickets for $5, and CCU/HGTC students and children's tickets are $3.
