CCU screens ‘The Lost Battalion’ as part of film series

January 17, 2017

"The Lost Battalion," a 2001 war film set in World War I, will be screened at Coastal Carolina University on Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 5 p.m. in The Coastal Theater of the Lib Jackson Student Union, Room A-110. The event is free and open to the public.

This film, based on actual events, follows a unit of more than 500 American soldiers who were trapped behind German enemy lines during World War I. The story chronicles the hardships that the men of the U.S. Army 77th Infantry Division faced, including having to survive without food, water and ammunition.

Immediately following the viewing, CCU Professor of History Eldred "Wink" Prince will lead a discussion and explain the historical significance of the film. He is director of CCU's Waccamaw Center for Cultural and Historical Studies and author of the book "Long Green: The Rise and Fall of Tobacco in South Carolina."

The film screening is a part of the Department of History's War & Society Film Series. Two more films will be shown this semester as part of the series: "La Rafle" on Feb. 7 and "The Counterfeiters" on Feb. 28. The Lib Jackson Student Union is located at 100 Spadoni Park Circle on the main Conway campus.
