CCU presents The Collective with Kane and Snider

March 3, 2017
The Collective performers include CCU alumnus Kevin Kane.

Coastal Carolina University alumni Kevin Kane and Brandon T. Snider, along with seven members of their New York-based ensemble, The Collective NY, will perform at CCU on Friday, March 17, and Saturday, March 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Edwards Theater. Tickets are $17, with discounts available.

Kane, Emmy Award-winning producer of Comedy Central's "Inside Amy Schumer" who appeared with Schumer in the film "Trainwreck" and will appear with Schumer and Goldie Hawn in the film "Snatched" this spring, will perform with Snider and members of The Collective including Emma Canalese, Karen Chamberlain, co-artistic director Robert Z. Grant, Mike Houston, Lacy Marie Meyer and Ross DeGraw, with Rachel Dart as stage manager.

The performances will also feature CCU theater students T.J. Little, Rhett Hanenkratt and Wes Williams, who will work with Kane, Snider and The Collective NY artists in the days leading up to the performances.

The Collective NY's mission unites professional artists who share a responsibility to create work in the contemporary American theater that is emotionally truthful, socially relevant and accessible. Established in 2007 in New York City by a group of actors including Kane, Houston, Grant and Schumer, the company follows in the tradition of the Group Theatre under the belief that the current conditions of commercialized theater necessitate collective action.

The group will present six original 10-minute plays that premiered in New York as part of the annual Collective: 10 Short Play Festival in September 2016. Friday's event includes a question/answer panel following the performance.

Snider is the author of the award-winning "Dark Knight Manual," as seen in Entertainment Weekly, Time, Forbes and Wired, as well as the best-selling "DC Comics Ultimate Character Guide."

Additionally, he's written books featuring Cartoon Network favorites such as Adventure Time, Regular Show and Uncle Grandpa, as well as pop culture icons like Superman, Transformers and The Muppets.

In addition to performing and working individually with selected theatre students, Kane, Snider and the ensemble will hold workshops with groups of CCU theatre and Master of Arts in Writing (MAW) students.

For the two public performances, general admission is $17. Senior citizens, OLLI members, CCU alumni, teens and CCU/HGTC faculty and staff are $12. CCU/HGTC students can purchase tickets for $5.

Free tickets are also being offered to CCU theatre students in support of The Collective NY's NO EMPTY SEATS initiative. Up to half the seats for every Collective production are offered on a free and pay-what-you-can basis. NO EMPTY SEATS is made possible by generous donors and participating producers such as CCU.

The Edwards Theatre is located in Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts on the campus of Coastal Carolina University, 133 Chanticleer Drive W., Conway.
