Fischer and Myrick guitar duo to perform at CCU

April 3, 2017
David Bankston

Tim Fischer and Brad Myrick along with special guests David Bankston, Jesse Willis and Matthew White will hold a concert on Wednesday, April 5, at 7:30 p.m. in the Edwards Recital Hall at Coastal Carolina University. This concert was originally scheduled for October 2016 but was canceled because of complications from Hurricane Matthew. Tickets are $17 with discounts available.

Fischer, CCU assistant professor of music, has performed with Myrick for more than 10 years, and during that span the duo has perfected their unique form of improvisation and musical conversation via guitars. With Myrick on acoustic and Fischer on electric, the pair explores a wide range of sonic possibilities.

"We write music for guitars and leave room for improvising and see where everything goes," Fischer said. "Both of us have such faith and trust in each other that if one takes it in a new direction, the other goes with it. Because of that, every performance is quite different and, hopefully, fun." Fischer and Myrick met in Los Angeles during their undergraduate work at the University of Southern California, and they perform together annually at venues around the United States as well as Italy. The duo is scheduled to release an original album titled Dodeca this year, and they plan to perform many pieces from the album at the concert.

Bankston, one of the album's musical contributors and CCU professor of music, will make an appearance at the performance. Willis and White, both CCU assistant professors of music, will perform on percussion and trumpet, respectively.

Teenagers, CCU and HGTC alumni, OLLI members, groups and senior citizens receive a 20 percent discount. CCU and HGTC students can purchase tickets for $5 with a student ID.
