CCU choirs, bands to present the works of Percy Aldridge Grainger
This collaborative concert celebrates the choral and band music of the world-renowned Australian composer.
Terri Sinclair, CCU associate professor of music and director of choral activities; Richard Johnson, CCU professor of music; and Tim Koch, CCU Department of Music faculty member, will co-direct the performance.
In addition to his work as a solo pianist, Grainger is remembered for his arrangements of British folk tunes transcribed for various combinations of voices, ensembles and instruments. Performances involving a vocal and instrumental synthesis are rare, making this a unique event.
"Percy Grainger's music speaks to all people," said Johnson. "He has written to preserve folk traditions throughout the world - all races, all beliefs. This concert focuses on the British folk traditions in 'Lincolnshire Posy,' the youthful exuberance of 'Children's March' and the writings of Rudyard Kipling, as well as the freedom of our democracy."
General admission is $7. Senior citizens, OLLI members, CCU alumni, teens, and CCU/HGTC faculty and staff are $5. CCU/HGTC students can purchase tickets for $3.
