Pulitzer Prize-winning images are topic of April 22 lecture

A lecture on Pulitzer Prize winning photographs will be held at Coastal Carolina University's Myrtle Beach Education Center on Saturday, April 22, at 10 a.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The lecture focuses on Pulitzer Prize-winning photographs that show American life and democratic principles. CCU assistant professor of communication, media and culture Wendy Weinhold will explore the legacy and stories behind the photographs, as well as the legal and social implications of photojournalism in the digital age.

Weinhold earned a bachelor's degree from Hastings College and a Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Her work focuses on the changing definition of U.S. journalists in the digital age. Her interests include critical theory and feminist criticism, and her teaching specialties are journalism, communication studies, and women and gender studies.

The event is being sponsored by the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts and the Department of American Studies as part of the American Studies Lecture Series: Images and Icons of America.

At 9:30 a.m. a coffee social will be held before the lecture. The lecture will be held in Room 108 of the Myrtle Beach Education Center is located at 900 79th Ave N.
