Olympic athlete Amber Campbell, a 2004 graduate of Coastal Carolina University, will give the address at her alma mater's spring commencement ceremonies. Approximately 1,145 students will be eligible to march in the event, which will consist of three separate ceremonies:

- Friday, May 5, at 2 p.m. - E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration and Spadoni College of Education;

- Friday, May 5, at 6 p.m. - College of Science;

- Saturday, May 6, at 8:30 a.m. - Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts and University College

Campbell will receive the honorary degree Doctor of Science at the 6 p.m. ceremony on May 5. Also receiving honorary degrees are William H. "Billy" Alford (Doctor of Public Service) and Robert W. Honeycutt (Doctor of Science).

Campbell is one of the best women's hammer throwers in the world. She has won 11 national championships, and she is a two-time Pan American Games Medalist. She owns the Olympic Trials and American Olympic record. She has represented Team USA at five World Championships (2005, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015) and is a three-time Olympian (2008, 2012, 2016). Her mark and placing at the Rio Olympics in 2016 was the best ever by an American woman. Campbell finished with a throw of 72.74 meters-just two meters away from the bronze medal. She threw her personal best-74.03 meters-at the Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore., in June 2016.

Originally from Indianapolis, Ind., Campbell earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from CCU. One of the most distinguished student-athletes in CCU history, she was a five-time NCAA All-American, 16-time conference champion and three-time Big South Athlete of the Year. She lives in Myrtle Beach and continues to serve CCU as a volunteer assistant coach for throwers. Campbell was inducted into CCU's George F. "Buddy" Sasser Hall of Fame in 2009 and the Big South Conference Hall of Fame in 2016. Alford, a Myrtle Beach businessman, has served in many key leadership positions in the governance of Coastal Carolina University. A 1977 Coastal Carolina graduate, Alford, as chairman of the Horry County Higher Education Commission, was instrumental in the movement to separate Coastal from the University of South Carolina system and establish CCU as an independent state university. He also played a significant role in the creation of CCU's academic outreach center. Alford has served as chairman of the CCU board of trustees and the Coastal Educational Foundation. He is vice president of A&I Fire and Water Restoration.

Honeycutt is the co-founder and chief visionary of SixAxis Manufacturing Technologies and its diverse portfolio of companies. In 2003, with business partner Fred Harmon, Honeycutt founded his first company, SafeRack, which delivers high-quality loading rack and fall protection solutions to companies. The firm opened its first manufacturing facility in Andrews, S.C., in 2005. By 2008, SafeRack appeared on Inc.'s "Fastest-growing Private Companies in America" list. The company generates significant employment opportunities and economic impact for the Andrews area of Georgetown County. The company initiated a $20 million expansion last year that is expected to bring 100 new jobs to the region.

The ceremony will also include the presentation of awards to outstanding graduates for academic achievement as well as recognition of retiring faculty members. The ceremony will be streamed live at livestream.
