Originally from Indianapolis, Ind., Campbell earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from CCU. Alford, a Myrtle Beach businessman, has served in many key leadership positions in the governance of Coastal Carolina University. A 1977 Coastal Carolina graduate, Alford, as chairman of the Horry County Higher Education Commission, was instrumental in the movement to separate Coastal from the University of South Carolina system and establish CCU as an independent state university. He also played a significant role in the creation of CCU's academic outreach center. Alford has served as chairman of the CCU board of trustees and the Coastal Educational Foundation. He is vice president of A&I Fire and Water Restoration.
