Alcorn named director of major gifts for the Chanticleer Athletic Foundation at CCU

September 11, 2017

Ashleigh Gunning Alcorn, a member of the Coastal Carolina University Athletic Hall of Fame, has been named director of major gifts for the University's Chanticleer Athletic Foundation (CAF).

She previously served as a development officer with the Tiger Athletic Foundation at Louisiana State University and as the assistant director of the annual fund for the Texas Tech University Athletic Department.

"I am thrilled that Ashleigh has joined the Chanticleer Athletic Foundation team," said Chris Johnson, executive director of the CAF. "She had a stellar career as a CCU women's soccer player and knows firsthand the importance of donor funding to support our athletic programs. As a hall of fame inductee, Ashleigh will be a strong advocate for Chanticleer athletics and the mission of the Chanticleer Athletic Foundation."

Alcorn was inducted into CCU's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013. A standout with the women's soccer program, she was named the Big South Conference Player of the Year in 2007 and 2008. In just three seasons of play, Alcorn finished her CCU career ranked third in both total points (84) and goals (36). A two-time Academic All-American and three-time all-conference performer, she set the single-season school record for points with 39 in 2007. Alcorn also played five years of professional soccer in the United States, Sweden, Norway and Australia.

"I would like to thank the Chanticleer Athletic Foundation board of directors, Executive Director Chris Johnson, and the entire CAF family and supporters for the opportunity to return to Coastal Carolina University," Alcorn said. "I was part of a Coastal team that set records and established high expectations during my first stint in Conway. As a new member of the CAF team, I hope to do the same. The Grand Strand community and Coastal alumni base is the perfect combination to take CAF to new heights.

"Coastal Carolina athletics has a special place in my heart, and I have a passion for philanthropy. The opportunity to pursue both of those is a dream for which I am grateful. Lastly, I'd like to thank my husband and family for their continued support and encouragement to follow these dreams."

Alcorn's background also includes serving as a consultant for Huddle Up, a global leadership program that focuses on preventing all forms of men's violence against women; and as an account executive and regional director of sales for Wecando Print in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

A native of Baton Rouge, La., Alcorn earned a bachelor's degree in communication from CCU in 2008 and a master's degree in sports leadership from Northeastern University. She is pursuing a doctorate in sports leadership and higher education from Northeastern.

Her husband, Jeremy Alcorn, was recently named CCU's assistant men's golf coach.
