John Hughes' iconic film "The Breakfast Club" will be shown Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 6 p.m. in the Coastal Theater at Coastal Carolina University's Lib Jackson Student Union. The screening is free and open to the public.

The 1985 film tells the story of five high school students, each from separate cliques, who spend a memorable Saturday in detention. Each student is charged with writing a 1,000-word essay about who he or she is; as the movie continues, that concept evolves in their minds. The film illustrates group dynamics, expectations and friendship as the teenagers discover they have more in common than they initially assumed.

Following the screening, CCU's Department of Communication, Media and Culture faculty members Andrea Bergstrom, assistant professor of communication; Wes Fondren, chair and associate professor of communication; and Brian Roessler, lecturer of communication, will discuss small group communication and dynamics in the film.

The film is rated R and contains content that may be inappropriate for children. Parental discretion is advised.

The screening is part of the Department of Communication and Media Culture's Communication Movie Night.
