Andrew Fowler, Coastal Carolina University teaching associate, along with colleagues in the Department of Music will perform "Travelogue: Music of Andrew Fowler," a concert of his recent compositions, on Sunday Oct. 8, at 4 p.m. in the Edwards Recital Hall. Tickets are $7, with discounts available.

Chronicling his musical journey over the last five years, Fowler will be joined by colleagues Daniel Hull, lecturer of music; Jeffrey Jones, associate professor of music; Philip Powell, chair and professor of music; and Amy Tully, associate professor of music and associate dean of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts.

Featuring chamber music, works for solo piano and art song, the concert will premiere several pieces and conclude with "Songs of Travel," Fowler's song cycle recently performed at the College Music Society International Conference in Sydney, Australia.

"For me, as a composer, a major benefit of my connection with CCU is in knowing that my remarkably gifted faculty colleagues understand the importance of bringing new music to an audience," said Fowler. "Also, their enthusiasm for their craft spills out into the music and makes the music come to life. I love that this concert connects with the tradition begun by composers 200 years ago, when concerts of new music were the norm."

Fowler is a composer, pianist and vocalist whose eclectic output reflects a wide-ranging interest in music of all kinds, from Bach to the Beatles. His works have received acclaim in venues such as Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Nobel Conference on Peace, and Piccolo Spoleto. His interest in local and state history has led to the creation of works such as "Lowcountry Voices," "Over Yonder's Ocean," "Tales of the King's Highway" and his opera "The Prince of Tides," based on Pat Conroy's celebrated novel.

Hull, an active soloist, ensemble musician and teacher of guitar, has performed throughout the United States, Europe and the Caribbean. Jones, baritone, has performed with the Arizona Opera, Capitol City Opera, Carolina Master Chorale and the Long Bay Symphony. Powell, pianist, has appeared regularly as an adjudicator and guest teacher for competitions and master classes throughout the United States. Tully, flutist, has held principal flute chairs on orchestral and wind symphony tours in Germany, Austria, Italy, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic.

Senior citizens, OLLI members, CCU and HGTC alumni, teenagers, and CCU and HGTC faculty and staff are $12 per ticket. Children and CCU and HGTC students may purchase tickets for $5.

The Edwards Recital Hall is located in Room 152 in the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts Building at 133 Chanticleer Drive W. on the Conway campus.
