‘Motorcycle Diaries’ presented CCU’s Foreign Language film series
The film follows young Argentinian Ernesto "Che" Guevara, who would become a major figure of the Cuban revolution, as he takes a journey of discovery through the countries of South America and ultimately finds his own path. The film will be shown in Spanish with English subtitles.
Jorge Alberto Perez, associate professor, and Alejandro Muñoz-Garcés, assistant professor, both in the CCU Department of Languages and Intercultural Studies, will lead a discussion following the film on Guevara as a Marxist revolutionary, physician, author, guerilla leader, diplomat and military theorist.
The film is part of the Department of Languages and Intercultural Studies' Foreign Language Blockbusters film series. It is rated R and contains content that may be inappropriate for children. Parental discretion is advised.
"The Foreign Language Blockbuster series seeks to draw attention to the fact that Hollywood cinema is only one of many film industries worldwide," said Gary Schmidt, series coordinator and professor/chair of the Department of Languages and Intercultural Studies. "'Foreign films' include not just independent films and art films; there are also many important box office smashes in languages other than English. These films give us a window into the concerns of viewers from other cultures and challenge us to rethink the assumptions of our world view.'"
