Coastal Carolina University's Jazz Ensemble will perform a concert featuring the music of guest composer/performing artist Scott Routenberg on Tuesday, Oct. 24, at 6 and 7:30 p.m. in the James J. Johnson Auditorium. Tickets are $17, with discounts available.

Under the direction of Matt White, associate professor of music, the CCU Jazz Ensemble will perform Routenberg's works with its 17-piece big band instrumentation. The concert will also feature Routenberg on piano and appearances by White on trumpet and Tim Fischer, assistant professor of music, on guitar.

Routenberg is a composer, arranger and jazz pianist who has been commissioned for various ensembles, including the Metropole Orkest, the Atlanta Symphony and the Indianapolis Symphony. This year, the Scott Routenberg Trio released its debut album, "Every End is a Beginning," featuring Routenberg, Nick Tucker and Cassius Goens III. Routenberg recently premiered a commission from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) with the Los Angeles Jazz Symphony, featuring MacArthur Foundation Grant recipient Miguel Zenon. Routenberg is assistant professor of jazz piano at Ball State University.

"It's a great experience for our students to be performing with Scott," said White. "It will also be unique in that we are playing the same set back to back 'unplugged,' with minimal amplification," said White. "I think audiences will get a unique experience into the sound and power of the jazz ensemble without excessive amplification."

The CCU Jazz Ensemble is the by-audition-only large ensemble in the commercial music and jazz area for the University. The ensemble performs classic and contemporary literature written for big band configuration and performs regularly behind guest artists and debuting new literature.

General admission is $17. Senior citizens, OLLI members, CCU alumni, teens and CCU/HGTC faculty and staff are $12. Tickets for children and CCU/HGTC students are $5.

The Johnson Auditorium is in Room 116 of the E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration, located at 119 Chanticleer Drive E. on the main Conway campus.
