CCU joins Carolina Master Chorale for Broadway Blockbusters concert

"Broadway Blockbusters," a Carolina Master Chorale concert in conjunction with CCU's Department of Music faculty, will be presented on Saturday, Oct. 28, at 4 p.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church in North Myrtle Beach, and Sunday, Oct. 29, at 4 p.m. at Trinity Church in Myrtle Beach. Tickets are $20 with discounts available.

This concert will include Carolina Master Chorale (CMC) soloists and winners of the second annual CMC/CCU Vocal Competition performing hits from various Broadway musicals such as "Showboat," "The Pirates of Penzance," "Phantom of the Opera" and "The Hunchback of Notre Dame." Timothy Koch and Daniel Francis, teaching associates in CCU's Department of Music, direct the performances and perform on piano, respectively.

CCU students to be featured in the concert include freshman soprano Ashlyn Combs of Lexington, S.C.; sophomore mezzo-soprano Chloe Campbell of Duluth, Ga.; senior soprano Erin Paxton of Severna Park, Md.; senior soprano Sophia Kider of Warren, N.J.; senior baritone Ethan Babson of Clover, S.C.; and sophomore tenor Kaleb Jenkins of Concord, N.C. The students will each sing two songs before coming together for one final ensemble number.

The Carolina Master Chorale is the oldest community singing organization in the area surrounding Myrtle Beach, covering northeast South Carolina and southeast North Carolina. Koch leads the chorale as the ensemble's fourth music director in its 35th anniversary concert season. Koch has led the CMC in tour performances of Italy, Denmark, Germany, Spain, Costa Rica and the Czech Republic. Francis holds a Master of Music from the University of South Carolina and a Bachelor of Music from Bob Jones University where he studied under world-renowned concert pianists Marina Lomazov and Peter Davis.
