CalypSamba to perform with steel pan artist Albino
CalypSamba will collaborate with steel pan virtuoso Albino to present high-energy interpretations of music styles from around the world under the direction of Jesse Willis, associate professor of music. Albino, a native of Trinidad and Tobago, is a teacher, author and professional musician based in Trinidad and Tobago and Montreal.
CaylpSamba was created 13 years ago and has since performed music styles from Africa, Japan, Trinidad and Tobago, India, Cuba and Brazil. The ensemble recently won the prestigious Percussive Arts Society World Percussion Ensemble Competition and was invited to perform at PASIC 2015 in San Antonio, Texas.
The concert is a fundraiser for the Each 1 Teach 1 Entrepreneurship Institute at CCU. The institute serves both CCU students and area middle and high school students in a partnership between CCU's E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration and the Spadoni College of Education's Biddle Center for Teaching, Learning and Community Engagement. This partnership provides students with tools to build successful futures in education and business. The institute's mission is to teach students how to plan for the future, market their ideas, work in groups and speak in public.
General admission is $17. Senior citizens, OLLI members, CCU alumni, teens and CCU/HGTC faculty and staff are $12. Tickets for children and CCU/HGTC students are $5.
Wheelwright Auditorium is located at 108 Spadoni Park Circle on the Conway campus.
